Following the enormous success of the HGTV series A Very Brady Renovation, actress Maureen McCormick has decided to stick with the network for the time being, hosting the new series Frozen in Time, which will be premiering in the spring. Working alongside designer Dan Vickery, the concept is that they will be overhauling homes that seem to be trapped in time in terms of design, with Dan bringing the interior up to date while Maureen looks for key pieces that represent the era the house was “stuck” in. The goal is to create a home offering a nod to its original era while also providing a refreshed look. For Maureen, it must be very exciting to be experiencing this renaissance in her career.
Of the six “kids” from The Brady Bunch, it’s probably Maureen — who, like her costars, will be known as her onscreen alter ego, in her case Marcia Brady — that had the most challenging time coping with life outside of the show, particularly in its aftermath. But unlike many other Classic TV child stars whose path led to self-destruction — a road which Maureen definitely treaded on — she did not come to a tragic end or become embittered to the point of retreat from the thing that made her famous in the first place. Just as importantly, she did more than just survive, moving her life and career in different directions, Frozen in Time being only the most recent example.
Like Barry Williams, Eve Plumb, Christopher Knight, Susan Olsen, and Mike Lookinland, her life as a Brady is something Maureen, 63, has come to peace with. And why not? The original show celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, the public still loves the Bunch and the actors are reuniting for what is their sixth series — this one in the form of their first reality show, HGTV’s A Very Brady Renovation.
“For me,” Maureen recently explained at the annual TCA gathering for the new show, “I always look at each project on its own and see if it resonates with me as something that would be real and just good. When I heard about this, I’m a huge fan of HGTV and all the shows that they do, and I talked with the people and just felt like they had a love for this project. I felt like this would be a really good one to be involved with, and I was very excited in getting back together with everyone. It’s been a really long time since we’ve all been together and working together, and it’s just been so beautiful to be a part of.”
